Joan Soriano – ”Vocales de Amor
A review by Bachata Sweden

Our names are Peter and Christine, and together we started “Bachata Sweden” in 2006. We are IN LOVE with Bachata Music – no doubts. We also travel within (foremost) Sweden to promote the dance, music and culture – but we also travel to other countries when time allows (for the same reasons of course). Last but not least – we have had weekly Bachata classes (four different levels) since 2007 – and we have about 90-110 people visiting every week at our classes.

Not very long ago we received a DVD from our close friends Troy and Jorjet (USA) about this guy, Joan Soriano.
This DVD introduced us to Joan’s life, how his career started, and what has happened so far in his quest for finding his audience.
I (Peter) got very emotional about his life, and as we (me and Christine) traveled around the entire country for one month – we’ve seen first hand the life in the Dominican Republic.

We wanted to do something, and so we decided to invite Joan Soriano to the Swedish Bachata Festival -2010. To promote Joan’s arrival to Sweden, we got in contact with Adam Taub (director of the above mentioned DVD) – and we bought 30 pcs of the album “Vocales De Amor”.
After just a few weeks – the CDs were all sold, and so we brought more. And well – they are gone as well..

So what is so special about Joan Soriano and his CD “Vocales De Amor”?
For us (me and Christine) – we enjoy the Dominican Bachata music. And when there’s a old school song playing, with the touch of the present – we go nuts on the dance floor. There’s nothing better!
Joan has got an old soul filled with the true Dominican sound. Old school!! But still his music is new, and you can hear the development of music since Juan Luis Guerra, Antony Santos, Luis Vargas, and way back to Sonia Silvestre, Victor Victor and Luis Dias.

A personal favorite is “Que Pasará Mañana” (number 5 on the CD) if I just want to listen, or for that matter – great for teaching musicality and certain turn patterns in classes. The song (which is the title of this CD) “Vocales de Amor” is probably even better for teaching more musicality and to DANCE to – you will really need to spend a few hours with number 1 on this CD. The title track is great, and it was also this song that about 100 people (that were in this particular room) sang the chorus for Joan Soriano when he first arrived to the festival area at the Swedish Bachata Festival. Joan shed a tear of emotion at this time. But for us – it was HIS music, and we also wanted him to feel the he already have an audience in the small country of Sweden.

We have so much love for Joan Soriano's music, and this CD was what we needed to get refueled.
There are many great songs on this CD, both Merengue and Bachata. I don’t want to favor any songs – but at the same time – the review would be too long if I wrote what I thought about every single song.
We love the music… every single song!

Much love to Joan Soriano – from Bachata Sweden!

Sincerely,
Peter and Christine
